I took a 35mm black and white photography class at Pomona during my freshman year. The final assignment was to interfere with the subject matter that you were photographing, to manipulate it before the image was taken.
I was sort of lost in what I wanted to do for the project because I knew that I wanted to create an story throughout the series, one which would immerse viewers in its illusion. I started with my extreme disdain for bugs--creatures which I find terrifying, creepy, and beautiful at the same time--and went from there. The result is Invasion--an invasion of bugs into the home, of an external force into a personal space.
